Matthew Curtis

Matthew is a member of the British Numismatic Society and has been a coin professional since 2005 but has been in the coin world all of his life because his father was General Secretary of the International Association of Professional Numismatists for many years and remains an honorary member to this day.

His first step into the coin world was age five attending the IAPN Congress with his family and as a teenager he helped out in school holidays at A.H. Baldwin & Sons organising stock at Adelphi Terrace to make room for the new Baldwin’s Auctions. Little did that teenage boy know that he would be working for Baldwin’s Auctions many years later.

In 2005 Matthew joined Baldwin’s Auctions as their Auctions Manager and stayed with Baldwin’s all through the Noble Investments years. In this time Baldwin's Auctions grew to hold over 20 auctions a year in London, Hong Kong and New York with some 12,000 lots being sold annually. When Noble sold Baldwin's to Stanley Gibbons Matthew felt this was the right time to leave and start his own business.

In 2014 Matthew joined forces with Tim Wilkes and formed the auction house Wilkes & Curtis Ltd. Business was going well for the pair and they started getting noticed by other larger firms who were making them offers to combine or takeover their business. Then in 2017 Matthew was headhunted to join The Royal Mint to help create a new division of the business which he called Collector Services.

After successfully growing Collector Services to a £10+ million a year turn over Matthew left his legacy at The Mint in 2020 to pursue his next business move, Curtis Coin Care and also to offer his knowledge and experience independently to those who may wish to seek his advice.

If you are being offered coins from the likes of The Royal Mint, London Mint Office or any other company Matthew can advise you on whether it is a good buy or not.

If you are looking to sell your coins Matthew can help you get a fair price, avoid any hidden fees and find the best place to sell them.

If you are looking for particular coins to add to your collection Matthew can help you find them.

Of course Curtis Coin Care can supply all of your collecting accessories as well.
